Transforming small gardens into attractive and functional outdoor spaces
This project shows how a relatively small garden is transformed into an attractive and functional outdoor space.
We began by constructing raised flower beds using locally sourced stone. These drystone walls were slightly curved to soften the edges of the garden. The stone was chosen specifically to compliment the other materials used in this quite traditional design. The raised beds were filled with high quality topsoil, the perfect blank canvas to create a stunning planting scheme that will bring interest to the garden throughout the seasons.
Our client felt it was important to include a small lawn, but also wanted to incorporate gravel paths. A good compromise was to install a small oval shaped lawn in the centre of the garden, edged with attractive cobbles. These lawn edges are great in terms of maintaining the lawn to a high standard - it is easy to cut the edges of the grass and ensures the lawn has a clearly defined edge. For the paths we used a golden gravel that complimented the colours of the stone and the cobble edges.
